The R&D Drop

Dialing in a new coffee takes reps. If a roaster tells you they nail the perfect profile on the very first try, they’re lying. This page is a behind-the-scenes look at the process. These are the test batches—the roasts that didn't hit the exact target spec for our core lineup, but are way too good to keep to ourselves. Total transparency, limited runs, and great coffee to fuel your mornings while we do the work to lock in the final recipe.

We are currently building the recipe for our upcoming daily-drinker, Flowstate. To get there, we run test flights on the roaster to see how the beans react to heat.

For this specific 800g production run, we gave the roaster a massive thermal battery and hit the gas. The beans soaked up the heat and flew through the roast, hitting First Crack in under 8 minutes and landing at a 67.1 color score.

What does that mean for your cup? It means this coffee is a sprinter. Because it roasted fast, it preserved a lot of the bright, organic acids in the bean.

  • The Vibe: Punchy, clean, and vibrant.

  • The Profile: Lighter and more fruit-forward than what the final Flowstate will be (we are aiming for heavier, sweeter caramel notes for the final version).

  • Who it's for: If you like a brighter morning cup with a little more upfront life to it, this batch is an absolute banger.
